The Return of the Scottish Funk-Post-Punk Kings: APB

Long before the world danced to Franz Ferdinand or The Rapture, a three-piece band from the rural town of Ellon, Scotland, was already perfecting a jagged, bass-driven groove that would bridge the gap between punk rock and the dance floor.

The Band That Defined an Era

Formed in 1979, APB didn't just play post-punk; they reinvented it by injecting a heavy dose of funk. While most of their UK contemporaries were looking to icy synths, APB looked to the bass-heavy rhythms of George Clinton and the "DIY" grit of The Clash.

They became an underground sensation in the New York/New Jersey tri-state area during the 1980s, largely thanks to heavy rotation on the legendary WLIR/WDRE. Their singles became club anthems, leading to massive sell-out shows at the Ritz in Manhattan and tours alongside icons like The Clash and James Brown.

The Setlist: Dance-Floor Classics

Expect a set fueled by the relentless, "slap-and-pop" bass lines of frontman Iain Slater. The band is set to tear through their catalog of cult classics, including:

  • "Shoot You Down": A punk-dance floor masterpiece famously cited by the Beastie Boys as an all-time classic.
  • "Palace Filled With Love": The melodic, driving anthem that defined college radio in the early 80s.
  • "Rainy Day" & "What Kind of Girl": Tracks that showcase the band's uncanny ability to turn spastic guitar clashes into infectious pop hooks.

The Lineup

The band remains anchored by its core original members, ensuring that the signature "Scottish Funk" sound remains as tight and visceral as it was four decades ago:

  • Iain Slater: Vocals & Bass (The engine room of the APB sound)
  • Glenn Roberts: Guitar
  • George Cheyne: Drums

APB shows are notorious for drawing out the "old school" alternative crowd, and tickets for the Man Cave’s limited seating will go fast.
